In 2010, the construction of a double-tube railway tunnel started under the River Scheldt in the port of Antwerp, Belgium. During the construction process, a systematic survey was organised to monitor the deformation of selected concrete sections in both tunnels using terrestrial laser scanning. This article presents an automated procedure for performing the cylinder-fitting and data-cleaning steps in an iterative process using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Data cleaning consists of a filtering procedure in which all points not belonging to the tunnel's concrete surface are removed. This automated workflow increases the performance in terms of both processing the tunnel data and generating cross-sections of the newly built cylindrical tunnels.
