FORMER BATTELLE EXEC NOMINATED TO HEAD DOE FOSSIL ENERGY OFFICE

President Obama nominated Charles McConnell to lead the Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy (OFE) as assistant secretary late last week. McConnell has served as the fossil energy office's chief operating officer since May, but most of his experience is in industry, most recently as head of Battelle Energy Technology's carbon capture and sequestration program. Previously, McConnell spent more than 30 years at Praxair Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers of industrial gases. He also worked on a variety of advisory positions within the CCS world, including on FutureGen's Advisory Board in Texas, the Clean Coal Technology Foundation and the Gulf Coast Carbon Center.
