SEN. BINGAMAN UNVEILS LONG-AWAITED FEDERAL CLEAN ENERGY STANDARD

Coal plants outfitted with carbon capture and storage technology would be eligible for partial clean energy credits under Sen. Jeff Bingaman's (D-N.M.) proposed Clean Energy Standard unveiled this week. However, the measure will undoubtedly face an uphill battle in Congress in the months ahead. In addition to coal plants with CCS, the highly-anticipated legislation would award large utilities that produce electricity from renewables, nuclear and natural gas with whole or partial credits based on carbon emissions.
