The Japan Gas Association started, on October 1994, a six-year project of research and evelopment for transmission pipelines as commissioned by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan. This project is participated by four major gas companies in Japan (Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Toho Gas, and Saibu Gas), and several manufactures, as well as our Association, And it is intended to save the cost of construction works of transmission pipelines, achieve uniform quality, and solve the problem of shortage of skilled workers by de- veloping new welding and inspection technologies.
