摘要

The paper is of significant interest and rationally considers the effect of the subsoil which is generally not considered in the design of piled embankments. This discussion concerns Section 2 of the paper, and compares it with similar work undertaken at the University of Nottingham.rnAslam (2008) and Ellis and Aslam (2009a,b) also discuss the interplay between arching in the embankment, and the contribution of reinforcement and subsoil, in a plane strain situation. In Aslam (2008) and Ellis and Aslam (2009b) the following formulae are presented, based on consideration of a parabola rather than an arc of a circle for the deformed shape of the reinforcement. The notation has been changed to be consistent with the paper which is being discussed.
