摘要

The first (edited) book, comprising 15 chapters from 33 contributing authors, examines ways of identifying, conceptualising, organising and addressing global environmental risk. Many of the authors are geographers and this volume demonstrates that geography and geographers are at the centre of this important debate. The editors aim to link two important fields of research: 1) risk analysis and 2) human dimensions of global environmental change. They argue that the relatively mature field of risk analysis, owing to considerable experience in assessing and managing complex problems with large uncertainties, is well positioned to contribute to the analysis and solution of global environmental problems. Like all geographers, they advocate integrated, holistic approaches to addressing the myriad threats to the global environment, insisting on adoption of the pioneering risk analysis work of Goodman and Kates from the 1970s and 1980s.
