Warm Mix Asphalts (WMAs) with chemical additives

It has been shown that the use of the additives studied here, at the concentrations required for the production of WMAs, is simple and does not change the grade characteristics of the bitumen. Through laboratory tests and field projects it was observed that this kind of additives does have an important effect on the workability of an asphalt mixture. It is suggested that given the surfactant nature of this additives and the low concentrations required to achieve the effect, they interact at the interphase level between the bitumen and the mineral aggregate.
