Standpunkte heutiger Landschaftsarchitektur

In the seventies, the fulfilment of functional use requirements was the main focus of German landscape architecture. In the eighties, ecological considerations gained the upper hand, and in the nineties, design played the main role. Today, ecological aspects are taken into consideration as a matter of course, and there is a return of interest in specific design elements. Changes are taking place, however, in terms of land use. In cities, more and more open spaces that make the appearance of being public are actually semi-private in character, and we need to counter this trend with flexible use concepts. Flexibility is also required by not clinging to the idea that green spaces are made forever. Moreover, we need to abandon mechanical ecological approaches, and stop regarding interventions as undesirable a priori. Finally, one of the bugbears of landscape architecture is that the mistakes it makes exist for a long time. The profession thus needs room for experimentation, no matter whether with solution variants, differing materials or planning processes.%Nutzung, Ästhetik, Ökologie - diese drei Aspekte definieren Landschaftsarchitektur. Gefragt ist eine flexible Planung, die nicht starren Regeln folgt, aber doch alle Aspekte berücksichtigt.
