This situation does not hold true for Britain, and is not due solely to the mild climate or the general love of gardening, but to the exis- tence of garden design courses focussing on plant use and ecology. British landscape architects are mainly concerned with the engineering and planning aspects of their profession, and do not see garden designers as competitors but as experts to be consulted. As a solution, Germany could make courses on plant identification and use a central requirement of landscape architecture studies, or alternatively insist on one-year internships in plant nurseries.
