Last issue, we featured our Futures' Top 50 Brokers article, an annual listing of those brokerages with the highest customer equity as reported by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Unsurprisingly, most of those firms have been the same over the past few years, just in slightly different orders. A few new names appeared as some firms consolidated and others dropped off the list, but overall the companies in the listing are similar from year to year―no surprise there. One thing that was a surprise, though, was the number of "N"s signifying a "no" answer to whether the firm offers online futures trading. Nine of our top 50 identified themselves as not offering cybertrading capabilities, And those nine were not limited to the companies toward the end of the list with lower customer equity and lesser-known names. Even our number three (Salomon Smith Barney Inc.) and number six (Morgan Stanley & Co.) ranked companies answered "no" to our survey question.
