Many occupational diseases are not recognized and receive no compensation. For those affected this means effectively that they must forego the legally foreseen remuneration although the damage to health was caused by the occupation. This article presents the questions which are relevant for an assessment procedure for an occupational disease and what will be undertaken by the physician and consultancy offices in the initial stages towards recognition.
