In matters relating to defense, the king presides over a military cabinet and has ultimate control over the armed forces in his capacity as supreme commander in chief and chief of general staff of the Royal Armed Forces. The military cabinet is answerable to the king. There is no defense ministry as such. Rather, the military is administered by a minister delegate falling under the purview of the office of the prime minister. The budget shows the defense-related funding as going to the "Administration of the National Defense" account, rather than to a formal ministry. The national security forces are also answerable to the king, while the auxiliary forces are under the authority of the minister of the interior. Morocco also has a High Council for National Defense that includes key ministers, heads of the gendarmerie, military intelligence, the directorate general of studies and documentation, and the chief of the intelligence services.
