Highly competitive land prices, improved infrastructure and a quality labor force, not to mention an abundance of natu- ral amenities, are making the Tohoku region of northeastern Japan a prized destination for Japanese and foreign companies interested in locating or expanding their operations in Japan, according to Teruyuki Akema, chairman of the Tohoku Economic Federation. "Our region was recently cited in a nationwide survey as one of the 'most livable areas' of Japan," Akema says. "We have always had something special to offer, and we represent a kind of new frontier for new or expanding businesses in Japan."
