The floor of the dead sea is 1,300 feet below sea level—the lowest point on earth. Its bottom, rich in magnesium, potassium, bromine and calcium, is reputed to cure psoriasis and eczema and even ease arthritis pain. This is one of the many reasons some 600,000 tourists flock there every year to float effort- lessly on its salt-laden waters.
