You go to business school to learn about net present value and payback periods. But you really need to know about these topics before you send in the application. Is an M.B.A. program worth the considerable investment? Which schools deliver the most for your dollar? It's a question that's moving front and center among deans, faculty and especially students. And for good reason. An M.B.A. degree faces real competition these days. Consider your choices: You could interrupt your career for two years to get the degree, paying $40,000, or sometimes a lot more, in tuition. Or you could hop onto an Internet startup or join a robust tech company and have the potential to get unimaginably rich-not to mention getting in on the ground floor of the New Economy.
