Mobility comes at a considerable cost to the environment in terms of pollution and the use of precious resources, but it also represents a considerable cost to consumers as a direct result of rising fuel costs. Despite these pressures, many drivers prefer powerful SUVs and are reluctant to give up what they need in terms of all-weather rugged-ness, go-anywhere capability and large capacity simply to save fuel.
