She calls it the city of aspiration, an apt term for a daughter of Indian immigrants who is the underdog in a Democratic primary race to take New York's 14th Congressional District away from nine-term incumbent Carolyn Maloney. On a recent afternoon at a lounge in a Manhattan apartment building, Reshma Saujani, 33, offered some fresh approaches to immigration policy, job creation and financial regulation-a subject she knows well as a former deputy general counsel at Fortress Investment Group. She got nods of assent from the dozen or so women present, most of them second-generation Indian-Americans.
