JEAN PAUL COUPAL, 26, is co-owner of Coupa Cafe in Palo Alto, Calif. Since opening in 2004 it's morphed into the place for venture capitalists to spot promising entre preneurs—and for entrepreneurs to try out ideas. Steve Jobs dropped in occasionally; so did his wife. Coupal, who has an econ degree from Stanford, says he doesn't invest in any of his customers or collect fees for making introductions. He just likes being in the middle of things.
