Singapore Technologies Telemedia is an obscure company even in its native Singapore. Most of its businesses, such as a cable company and wireless operator, use their own brand names. Its chief executive, Lee Theng Kiat, won't allow his official photograph to be released without his permission. "We're not really a known quantity. But I think people will soon start to notice us," says Terry Clontz, the American head of Starhub, its wireless and cable company.
