How Food Technology Covered Biotechnology Over the Years

If biotechnology means bioengineering—placing specific genes into a genome to change biological structures—it has been covered in Food Technology for only about the past ten years. But if one looks at the underpinnings of biotechnology, scientists have been interested in altering the chracteristics of vegetables, fruits, and animals used for food since before Food Technology began publication 50 years ago. As some of the science necessary to change foods for better use has been developed, it has been covered in Food Technology, as early as the late 1940s when the development of waxy corn was announced.
