'MEGATRENDS - WHAT DOES THE 21ST CENTURY HOLD FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY?' - MEETING REPORT

Megatrends! What are they and how will they affect me? You couldn't have asked for a better insight than that provided by five able and fascinating speakers at this meeting on 20 February in London. Nearly 50 delegates now think they know the answer after lectures on organic and fair trade, provenance, packaging, retailing and the bigger picture of our whole future. After the introduction by the Chair Catherine Side, Patrick O'Flaherty of RDA Organic reviewed the development of the important sectors Organic and Fair Trade against a backdrop of his company's range of juices and smoothies. In the organic sector, there is a year-on-year sales increase of 22% and now 72% of the population understand the green credentials of buying organic. Health and taste are the main drivers.
