The benefits of long chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) for infant development are widely recognised. Since the 1990s, the World Health Organisation has recommended they should be added to infant formula. These fatty acids (in particular ARA and DHA - Omega 6 and 3 fatty acids) are of even more benefit to infants with allergies, having been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of allergic symptoms.rnHowever, although up to one in every 16 new-born children has an allergy, until now LC-PUFAs could not successfully be added to formula for these children.
