Value of U.S. ag exports set new record in fiscal 2013

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Nov. 14 indicated the value of U.S. agricultural exports in fiscal year 2013 set a new record. The value of U.S. agricultural exports in fiscal year 2013 ended Sept. 30 totaled $140.94 billion, up $5.12 billion, or 4%, from $135.82 billion in fiscal 2012 and compared with the previous record at $137.39 billion in fiscal 2011. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack said, "American agriculture achieved record exports once again in fiscal year 2013, and the period 2009-13 stands as the strongest five-year period for agricultural exports in our nation's history. In fact, compared with the previous five-year period from 2004 to 2008, U.S. agricultural exports from 2009 through 2013 increased by a total of more than $230 billion, and the average volume of bulk commodities exported increased by nearly 4 million tonnes per year during the same period."
