An industrial heating process was thought to be the cause of a May 13 four-alarm fire at the Blue Diamond Growers almond plant in Sacramento, Calif. The impact on California's almond industry, which accounts for 80% of the world's supply and of which Blue Diamond is the largest processor, still was unknown. Peanuts were 63% planted as of May 19 in the eight largest producing states, ahead of 60% a year ago and 55% as the 2014-18 average, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its Crop Progress report. Oklahoma lagged significantly with only 18% planted versus 64% as the average with all other states except North Carolina ahead of the five-year average.
