F.D.A. to allow the term 'potassium chloride salt' in food labeling

The Food and Drug Administration on May 17 issued draft guidance on using the name "potassium chloride salt" as an alternative to "potassium chloride" in the ingredient statement on food labels. "The flexibility in declaring potassium chloride in the ingredient statement on food labels may help inform consumers of the use of potassium chloride as at least a partial substitute for sodium chloride, thereby leading to the selection of foods with lower sodium content and decreasing the amount of sodium consumed," the F.D.A. said.
