'Liberty Belle' flies over DC for the 390th

In a rare and almost unprecedented event, the Liberty Foundation's Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress '297849' Liberty Belle (N390TH) was granted special permission to fly over Washington DC, USA, on September 21. The bomber saluted the 390th Bomb Group Veterans Association, which was holding its 2005 reunion in the capital that week. As soon the Liberty Foundation's Don Brooks heard that the reunion was to be held in DC, he set out to get the B-17 into the area so that as many veterans as possible would have the chance to see it. Looking at the reunion schedule, he noticed that the group were due to visit the World War Two Memorial there on the Thursday of that week.
