Spotfire rebuilds gather pace at Duxford

Supermarine spitfire IX PL344 (N644TB) has emerged from the Aircraft Restoration Company's hangar at Duxford, Cambs, following an extensive overhaul. The aircraft, owned by US-based collector Tom Blair, had arrived from its Florida base in January.rnA team of engineers led by James Gilmour carried out a detailed survey of PL344 and pinpointed several areas needing extra attention. By using the wing jigs at co-resident Historic Flying, a number of aerodynamic structural inaccuracies were identified within the profile of the port wing. Rectification work was carried out, primarily by John 'Smudge' Smith and Steve Wood, to restore the correct shape.
