High-explosives and incendiaries rained down on Berlin as a force of 443 Lancasters unleashed their bomb load. Less than 12 hours later a solitary aircraft set course for the 'Big City', as the German capital was known to bomber crews - and although it was a flying a long time after the raid, it was a vital part of the attack that preceded it.
