Almost 34 years to the day after retiring to London Southend Airport in Essex, Avro Vulcan B.2 XL426 delighted its enthusiastic followers with the aircraft's only public taxi runs of 2020. Owned and operated by the Vulcan Restoration Trust (VRT), the delta-winged jet completed no fewer than four full-power runs on December 12, all accompanied by the type's spine-tingling 'howl'. With the event divided into two sessions (each limited to 130 advance tickets to enable social distancing), those attending were able to experience the sheer power of XL426's four Rolls-Royce Olympus engines as the bomber was guided down the runway by former Vulcan pilot Bill Burnett and VRT's chief engineer, Matt Lawrence.
