New building being constructed for Metheringham's Dakota Project

A group of volunteers at Lincolnshire's Metheringham Airfield Museum is working to return former RAF Douglas Dakota KG651 to its 1944 appearance, and has recently raised enough funds to start building a protective structure to house the project. The aircraft was initially towed to its new site, with the construction team erecting the new building around it. "The weather conditions have been far from perfect and the area now resembles a World War One battlefield, but we are assured it will be levelled and dry after the construction is complete," reported the Dakota Project's Ian Brett. "A start has been made fitting the roof panels and we hope they will all be in place before the winter sets in. It will be good to have some cover over the Dakota during the colder months, even if it isn't fully weather-tight."
