It could be said that Flying Legends, organised by The Fighter Collection (TFC), needs no introduction. After all, it is regarded as the premier warbird airshow. With an astounding 40-plus aircraft participating each day, highlights included the public debut of both the sole airworthy de Havilland DH.9 and the Ultimate Fighters fourship display, no fewer than five Hispano Buchons, a trio of Dakotas and a guartet of Curtiss-built fighters (Hawk 75, P-36, P-40C and P-40F). One of the displays from overseas participants came from Switzerland-based Classic Formations, comprising three Beech 18s and a DC-3. Duxford regulars, including B-17 Sally B, Catalina Miss Pick Up, the Sea Fury T.20, P-51D Mustangs 'The Shark' and Contrary Mary, the Corsair, Bearcat, Wildcat and a plethora of Spitfires all took to the skies - the latter performing a 12-ship 'Spitfire Orchestra' to open the event. As always, the emotive and traditional Legends 'Balbo', this year featuring 24 aircraft, closed the show on both days.
