New life for historic Naval Air Squadrons

Two Naval Air Squadrons have recently been re-formed for test and evaluation duties with the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy. The first, 744 Naval Air Squadron, was reinstated at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, on October 24, by renaming the Mission Systems and Armament Test and Evaluation Squadron. Led by Cdr Jonathan Bird, the unit is manned by aircrew and engineers from all three services. Its role is to ensure new British military aircraft, weapons and upgrades to existing platforms are safe and fit for purpose.
