BBMF Spitfire returns to the air at Coninqsby

The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX PM631 successfully returned to the air on February 27 from Coningsby, Lincolnshire, in the hands of the team's OC, Sgn Ldr Mark Discombe. The Spitfire had not flown since August 2014 when vibrations were reported from its Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Plans to undertake a powerplant change were hampered due to a lack of spares and the machine was initially 'cannibalised' to service PS915, the BBMF's other PR.XIX. Spitfire PM631 was later placed on a 'Return to Flight' maintenance programme that included refitting the now fixed engine.
