As i have noted here before, when we approach to land we should give a bit of thought to the fact that 26 percent of the total accidents in general aviation occur in what we are about to do in the next couple of minutes. That pretty well defines the challenge: get the airplane down and to the hangar or tiedown without bending anything. Sometimes, while reading accident reports, an event shows up that screams at you about a subject. An accident in a twin-engine Piper Apache did this to me on the subject of arrivals. Not too long after departure, the pilot told a controller that he needed to return to the airport. That was fine, and the controller approved a frequency change.
