Condor Field, just outside Taft, CA, has seen a freeflight contest on Memorial Day weekend for many years. At one time a several hundred yard line going north and south on the east edge of the field had old-time models and modelers looking out for AMA freeflight modelers in a several hundred yard line going east and west on the north side of the field. It was a circus atmosphere with an event for every modeler and fun for those who came to watch and talk. In recent years the crowds have been dwindling. An integrated flight line on the north end of the field is little more than 250 yards long and, although there are still plenty of events, Condor Field no longer sees night flying and AMA nor Nostalgia gas being offered.
