If one drags out the many available three-view general aviation drawings of the little 1950s racers, there is a marked similarity between most of them. Inevitably one sees a boxy, tubby fuselage of almost constant depth, a chesty front end and a squat fin/rudder assembly that barely rises above the rear turtleback. The short, rectangular, pool table wings appear to have been manufactured by the mile then sawed off by the yard, before being handed around to the various designer/ builders.
