The first model I lost out of sight was a Frank Zaic designed Thermic B. It was about 20-inch span hand launch glider with very nice lines. I had carefully finished it with three coats of dope then some stuff called "Glider Polish". After only two or three trim flights, I hand launched it at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The park field is almost a mile wide with Fordham Hill towering about 200 feet a few blocks away. Atop Fordham Hill are apartment houses adding another hundred feet or so. I watched with 14-year-old awe as my model soared over the Fordham Hill houses still going up into the clouds.
