One of the pictures accompanying this column shows Jay Burkart holding an electric powered Lanzo Airborn. I believe that every thing that Chet Lanzo designed is or was a good contest flyer. It's strange how old time model designs go in, and out, of favor.rnChet designed the Airborn in 1938. The original Airborn was a glider with a 108-inch wing span, and 1360 square inches of wing area. I don't know whether the original plans showed an alternate front end for a spark ignition engine-but the first Airborn was a glider. Lanzo later flew it as a power ship. As you can see from the photo, the Airborn is a cabin design, and fairly short coupled. It's got an undercambered wing with Lanzo's trademark multiple small spars on the front upper third of the wing. It has an almost 9 to 1 aspect ratio as you would expect from a model originally designed as a glider.
