One can hardly say that Belgium's Ernest Tips was stuck in a rut. Employed by Avions Fairey as an aeronautical engineer, he had a nice little sideline going designing cute, low cost, small single- and two-seat, wood and tube airplanes for the sporting pilot. To date, three of his arguably attractive little designs already have appeared in the January 2001 and August 2008 issues of FM. The first Tips design flew first in 1935, and Tips kept his tee square and drawing board fully employed until his final design-the Nipper-flew in December of 1957.
