Raytheon is to replace the me chanically scanned radar design currently used by the US Air Force's (USAF's) Boeing B-52H strategic bombers with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) sensor, following a selection decision made by Boeing. In an announcement on 11 July, Raytheon said it will "design, develop, produce and sustain" the new radar system, which will be based on the technology used in its APG-79 and APG-82 family, respectively equipping US Navy Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and USAF Boeing F-15Es.
