China shows prowess with C919 work

Development work on the Comae C919 is continuing to gather pace, with a number of initial components now complete. On 28 November, the Chinese airframer announced that Shenyang Aircraft had manufactured the first engine pylon for the narrowbody. The pylon will be transferred to engine manufacturer CFM International for later installation on the latter's flying testbed for flight trials of the Leap-1C engine. Completion of the part enables the twinjet to maintain its first-flight target of 2015, it says. Additionally, Comae has released images show- ing a completed mid-fuselage section with the outer wingbox installed. Production and assembly of the fuselage section has been conducted by AVIC Xian Aircraft, it says, and highlights breakthroughs in indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
