USAF eyes unmanned, attritable future

With its oldest Lockheed Martin F-16s approaching the end of their service lives later this decade, the US Air Force may replace the manned fighters with so-called attritable unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). General James Michael Holmes, head of the service's Air Combat Command, wants the air force to rethink the way it wages aerial combat, by using new technology, including attritable UAVs.
