My first flight was from Hilo, Hawaii to Los Angeles on a United 747, in the window seat. I was five or six, back when you could get pretty close to an airport and watch planes. My dad, who was not flying with us, was parked next to the runway. I watched him as we took off and since then it's been a passion. At Southern Illinois University I received my private, commercial, instrument and multi licences. I qualified as a certificated flight instructor and spent a couple of years flight-instructing at the school. Today, flying is not part of my day-to-day job. However, it is something that I remain current with at Leesburg airport, about an hour's drive from downtown Washington.
