Ukrainian and international aviation authorities have called on aircraft operators to avoid flights through Crimean airspace due to safety concerns in the contested region. Authorities in Ukraine issued a NOTAM on 3 April to circumnavigate the Simferopol flight information region in the south of the state, and requested that Eu-rocontrol reject any flightplans for routes through the airspace. This was in response to a letter from ICAO warning international governments and aviation organisations that authority within Crimea's airspace is unclear, as it could be controlled both by Ukrainian and Russian air navigation service providers.
