United shakes up narrowbody orders

United Airlines will defer deliveries of 61 of 65 Boeing 737-700s and convert all of the orders to the -800 and 737 Max variants under a new plan to save $1.6 billion in capital expenditure over the next two years. The deferrals form a critical piece of United's strategy to keep the rate of non-fuel cost growth below 1% from 2018 to 2020, says Andrew Levy, its chief financial officer.
