Airbus's difficulties with producing the A400M tactical transport have prompted a fresh charge of just over €1 billion ($1.1 billion), but chief executive Tom Enders does not believe any further costs will "come close to the order of magnitude that we are booking right now". "Industrial efficiency and the step-wise introduction of the A400M's military functionalities are still lagging behind schedule and remain challenging," Enders said during a half-year financial update on 27 July. While the launch nations will be entitled to compensation as a result of delays, Enders says the "negotiation process has not even started" via Europe's OCCAR defence procurement body. "Customers are dealing with us in a very constructive spirit, [and] want to get this aircraft as soon as possible," he adds.
