For many in our industry, reading the latest reports on diesel fuel prices has become the equivalent of professional investors feverishly watching the leading stock market indicators and daily averages. Regardless of the daily ups and downs, we're looking at fuel price levels that are on a higher plateau - significantly higher than several years ago. Manufacturers of diesel engines for over-the-road trucks have delivered some amazing technologies. Lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency help to offset the rising cost of fuel. While the jury is still out on fuel economy performance of the new-for-2007 low-sulfur fuel engines, it makes sense to implement the reasonable component selection and maintenance practices that are proven and cost effective to maximize fuel economy.
