It is a good job that no one ever uses statistics selectively to make political points and that they can be used accurately to prove or disprove a theory. After years of celebrating a large reduction in deaths at accidental fires in the UK, there is now perceived to be a bottoming out of the reduction and indications may suggest that fire deaths are about to start rising. Proving the proverb 'success has many failures while failure is an orphan' yet again, the galloping rush for credit in reducing fire deaths is now subtly changing to a game of pointing fingers as to the blame for the recent increase in the number of fire deaths.
