For a standard pressure decaying inert gas system to overcome the initial pressure surge, approximately two to three times more vent area is required as compared to Fike's Prolnert System utilising a constant flow rate (pressure regulating discharge). As an example, under the same conditions a 150 cubic metre space protected with Prolnert only requires 0.140 square metres of vent area against a traditional system which requires 0.307 square metres. In addition, Fike's Prolnert constant flow rate inert gas design also enables the use of smaller diameter piping and eliminates the need for high pressure rated piping in the manifolds resulting in cost savings to the end user.
