Steeling the show

Dr G Charles Clifton and Raed Zaki El Sarraf report on a series of seminars on fire design solutions for multi-storey steel buildings. The new Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) and Steel Construction New Zealand conducted a series of joint seminars, entitled Steel Structures Seminar — Earthquake, Wind and Fire, in May 2006. The seminar covered technical and design issues for such scenarios, as well as documentation-related matters for structural engineers. This report focuses on the fire design solutions presented during a series of five seminar sessions.
